On September 2, 1726, the famous doctor and philanthropist John Howard was born in London.
Having inherited significant wealth, he focused his efforts on philanthropy. For this purpose, he visited European countries and spent a lot of time in Ukraine, in the city of Kherson. He uses his own funds to build hospitals and nursing homes.
In the Kherson province he is protected by military hospitals and the detention of prisoners in prisons. When a plague epidemic broke out in Kherson, John Howard goes to the city and visits hospitals, a prison castle, and organizes the treatment of patients at his own expense.
A street is named in honor of John Howard in the city of Kherson, and after the death of the philanthropist, a monument-stele in the form of a sundial is erected.
